PUBLIC BENEFIT COMMUNITY

How to Participate

There are a number of ways you can participate. Organizations can benefit from our open source software and support forums. Individuals who wants to assist organizations can participate by helping people in our forums, or contributing to our open source projects.

Use our Open Source Software

Our open source software is available for anyone to use. Most of our software is designed to help build websites and online communities using decentralized social media technology and most is released under the MIT license.

Get Technical Assistance

We help support public service organizations, such as non-profits, not-for-profits, NGOs, associations, and public benefit corporations (PBCs), with creating an online presence and community. You can request assistance in our forums.

Join our Community

Find like-minded individuals who want to make a positive difference in the world. You can ask questions or help other people with their questions. We are also looking for people who can help with technical tasks and development.

Multiple Communities.
Federated Social Identity.

Our websites use a decentralized social media technology that allows you to create a social identity (channel) in one community, and use that identity to access and communicate with other federated communities. Instead of creating multiple accounts, you use the same identity (channel) to access each community.

Steps to Get Started

1

Join a Community / Create an Account

Your first step is to create a decentralized social media account on one of the supported platforms. You can create an account on a public hub or you can install open source software on a web server that allows you to run your own community server.

If you already have a Hubzilla or Streams account, you can use your existing account. If you are not automatically logged in when visiting our websites, use the "remote authentication" option to log in.

If you want to join our community, we suggest creating an account at: morepossibilities.org

If you want to join a different community or install your own community server, details can be found at: federatedhub.org

2

Connect to Forums and Channels

Once you have your decentralized social media account set up, you can "connect" to various channels. Some channels are like blogs, where they have longer posts. Some channels are like social media accounts, with shorter posts. And some channels are public forums where discussions take place.

When you connect to a channel, you get notifications when there is new content. If the channel is a forum or group, it allows you to participate in the forum or group.

3

Participate in Discussions

Once you are connected, you can join in the discussions by creating new posts or replying to posts and comments.
